SUMMER READ CELEBRATION
Students who completed all Levels of the summer read program were treated to a popsicle and the top reader for each grade level will get to have lunch with Principal Shetzer. Raffle winners were presented with a Barnes & Noble gift card and the top overall winner received a Barnes & Noble gift certificate valued at
$30.

Our Fifth grade students had an opportunity to hear a book reading from a Houston Bar Association attorney. The Houston Bar Association attorneys read to 100 schools in Harris County for Constitution Day each year and this year the book titled, "So You Want to President? by Judith St. George & David Small was read by Ms. Kristen B. Hawkins. Below are some of the thank you letters composed by the fifth graders.
2014 - 2015
Winners of the Ivy & Bean Trivia contest. Overall winner won an Ivy & Bean book (#9 Ivy & Bean makes the rules). Both winners received an autograph label from author, Annie Barrows and Illustrator, Sophie Blackall as well as a Top secret membership card to the Ivy + Bean Club. Congratulations!

ROCKETS READ NATION CHALLENGE The Houston Rockets issued an invitation for our students to become citizens and participants of the READ NATION CHALLENGE. The READ NATION CHALLENGE is a program and competition that rewarded individual students and schools for reading the most number of minutes during the duration of the contest.The contest period ran from March 3 - 31, 2014. Kolter students read for a total of 18,392 minutes.

"Ooh the places you'll go and the things you'll see"
2011 - 2012
Kolter students celebrated Children's Book Week enjoying food and drinks featured in favorite books and dressing up as their favorite book character. *Students also voted from thousands of book nominees that were sorted into four categories. These top three voted books can be added to students summer read list. (*does not reflect the entire student enrollment).
The students also were visited by the Bellaire Public Library children's librarian. She interacted with the students during story telling as well as talking about the library's summer read program in collaboration with Houston ISD Millionaire reading program.
Additionally, reading resources were made available for the students: 2012-2013 Bluebonnet Books list, Houston ISD Name that Book lists for K-2 and 3-5, and 2x2 books list for PreK-Kinder. Available also were resources from Meyer Public library (June/July calendar and registration forms for a library card; Powercard). Bellaire Public library also provided a resource for the students.
